The speed limits are: on motorways 130 km/h, on dual carriageways / divided highways 110 km/h, on highways 90 km/h and in built-up areas 50 km/h. The blood alcohol limit is 0,08 %. On country roads, highways and motorways you must switch on the headlights even during the day. You are obligated to use the safty belts in Italy. The use of cellulars without car-mounting kit with microphone and speaker is forbidden. Drivers of motorcycles, mopeds and scooters are obligated to wear helmets. ATTENTION: the very popular passing of a traffic jam on the head shoulder of motorways to reach the next exit, will be prosecuted on priciple by suspension of the driving licence! Even if it were only some meters ..... The gasoline prices in Italy are relatively high (four-star/premium petrol EUR 1.17, regular petrol EUR 1.12 and Diesel EUR 0.91). There is only regular grade fuel with lead addition in Italy. The gas stations are opened on workdays from 7:30 - 12:30 o'clock and 15:00 - 19:00 o'clock, on Sundays only at arterial roads here and there as well as on the motorways. By the way it is forbidden in Italy to have a jerry can with you. |

| Holidays | Holidays in Italy are 1st and 6th January, 25th April, 1st May, 15th August, 1st November, 8th, 25th and 26th December, as well as the Easter Monday. First Sundays in June and in September are national holidays. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Pets | For cats and dogs you need a veterinary health and vaccinate certificate. The vaccination (rabies) must be carried out at least 20 days but not more than 11 months before passing the frontier. The health certificate is valid 30 days. | Post office | Opening Hours: normaly Mondays to Fridays from 08:30 till 14:00 and Saturdays from 08:30 till 12:00. The Main Post Offices in bigger cities are open all day from Mondays to Fridays from 08:30 till 18:00. Postage both for a letter and for a postcard into the European Union countries amounts to 800 L, other countries 900 L Stamps (francobolli) you can buy besides at the post office also in tobacco shops and bars, which are marked by a large T. Small packets must be let open, so that it is possible to check their contents at any time. For Parcels one need a special seal, which one can buy in the above mentioned tobacco shops and Bars. |

| Shopping | When buying in Italy there are some special features to consider. Basicly it is to bear in mind that the store opening times are laid down by the communities, therefore thus may differ from one village to the next. The shops are mostly opened from Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 12:30 and from 16:00 to 20:00, the large supermarkets are mostly continuous opened (starting earlier and closing later) often even on Sundays. In tourist places and large cities it can be that also smaller shops are opened continuous. As balance for the salesopen Saturday, however the shops often are closed at a certain weekday, but the food stores often at a diferant day than all other shops. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Telephone | The prefix from Italy for the USA is 001, for the UK 00 44, for Eire 00 353, for Denmark 00 45, for Belgium 00 32, for Norway 00 47, for Sweden 00 46 and for the Netherlands 00 31. For Iceland you have to call the telephone exchange. Please note that you have always to dial the leading zero of the area code of Italian numbers, from abroad as well as from Italy. If you are calling a mobile phone instead, there is no need to dial a leading zero, nor calling from abroad neither calling from Italy. Most of the public telephones works with telephone cards which you can buy at the telephone exchange or in the above mentioned tobacco shops and bars. |
